Title: Chiron
Post by: astro18 on Mar 25, 2010, 12:31 PM
Hello...I am new to the Message Board, but not to EA which I've been studying for about 10 years. I recently "enrolled" in Deva's School and look forward to this deepening wisdom journey.
My question is ..what role does Chiron play in EA chart interpretation?
Thanks...

HI Linda,

First, welcome to the EA message board, and our little community here. Chiron is treated in EA as any other archetype is. It is approached and understood from the point of view of the Soul's evolution: past, present, and it's future. Chiron has it's own nodal axis, South and North Nodes, relative to it's current life natal position by house and sign. So, in essence, it's a matter of first understanding the totality of what the archetype is for Chiron, then integrating that understanding in the individual context of any Soul's evolutionary journey as symbolized by the totality of it's birth chart starting, of course, with the core foundation of Pluto's placement in the chart, the North and South Nodes of the Moon, the location of their planetary rulers. Within this core, foundational, context the specific manifestation of how the Chiron archetype has been, is, and will be can be properly understood.

In brief: Pluto correlates to the big picture evolution, Chiron correlates to a specific and key piece of the evolutionary puzzle, so to speak. Within the Chiron signature are found intensified memory imprints. These memory imprints, which are centralized around a core theme as is indicated by the chart details, correlate to standout memories/experiences. These memory pools are formed from our peak experiences, in other words, our critical thresholds and turning points, and as such they are ones that hold at a particularly "enlivened" energy charge. (Think of the frictional quincunx aspect - ignites intensified awareness, requires concentrated focus.) Chiron references our greatest wounding experiences (experienced from all angles, wounder, wounded one) and our greatest potential for healing of those wounds, which ultimately serves to transform the conceptualizations of separateness consciousness, and facilitates more holistic (holographic/simultaneous) integration and healing. In other words, the Chiron homeopathic process (like eventually cures like; within the wound lies the key) prompts the advance of healing potentials and healing resources not only for self, but for other too (applies to/includes environmental/circumstantial, & collective). To use the analogy of the centipede, Chiron can be like that one leg that necessitates specialized attention.

I am currently working on a Chiron book and have a Chiron workshop available on disc.

Blessings to all,
Rose

Further sharing:
My premise/a proposition on how the archetype of Chiron fits into the evolutionary paradigm:
Pluto corresponds to the soul itself and its evolutionary journey,
Archetypal 8Th house placement
Mars, the instinct to grow beyond oneself/the activation of the soul's will in the contemporary lifetime,
Archetypal 1st house placement
The relationship between the two is represented by the quincunx (8Th house/1st house aspect). This is a mobilization aspect based on the frictional (energizing) influence of the 150 crisis aspect - paradox/conflict, heightened awareness, focus, adjustment.
Positioning mutational Chiron, correlating to the healing crisis, in the 6Th house position, sets up the YOD configuration:
Chiron in quincunx crisis aspect to the subjective will (Mars) calls for a critical adjustment to be made. As the soul confronts/explores the myriad of experience (1st house archetype/Mars), it ignites creative opportunity (Chiron in an archetypal sextile to Pluto) to transform the core/key wounds of the soul into essential soul growth (Pluto.)

Rose i wanted to thank you for insights into Chiron (and it nodes).

May i ask you what you mean by "positioning" chiron in the 6th....?

"Positioning mutational Chiron, correlating to the healing crisis, in the 6Th house position, sets up the YOD configuration"

I purchased two Chiron books selected from JWG recommended reading list and particulary appreciate Barbara Hand Clow's work, for her Chiron is the veritable ruler of the sixth, mercury in EA (i can appreciate both perspectives). Any further insight you may want to share would be most appreciated.

Many thanks and happy holidays to one and all.

Hello Tory,

By positioning, I simply meant to say to correlate Chiron to the 6th to see the yod formation between Pluto/8th house, Mars/1st, and Chiron/6th house. The polarity point of Chiron would then be correlated to 12th house/Piscean polarity - to saturate/submerge, to integrate/unite, and to eventually diffuse/relinquish (the repeating loop, the perpetuating of crisis). Ultimately to transcend/heal one's experiential consciousness in order to advance the journey of unifying/reuniting of one's "separate" soul with the "greater" soul - the source..

I don't know which two books you bought, but my favorite is Melanie Reinhart's, Chiron, the Healing Journey. Richard Nolle has also published a small book on Chiron. I have not yet read it..

Blessings
Rose

Hello Rose,
Many thanks for the further explanations which resonate perfectly with my understanding of Chiron. Do you correlate Chiron to the 6th (as well as mercury?) when reading a chart?

It would appear than some charts are more chirotic than others, i'm working on a chart with a NN, Mercury, Chiron, Sun conjunction on the IC in the 3rd/4th houses (Sun falls in the fourth which is ingressed in Aries) opposite SN, Uranus, Jupiter, Pluto conjunction in the 9th. I'm still an absolute beginner in EA but in this chart i found looking at Chiron's nodes (and the corresponding sabian symbols) extraordinarily insightful. I never thought i would be looking at planetary nodes at this early stage in my studies, just goes to show!

Yes i have Melanie Reinhart's and Barbara Hand Clow's Chiron books.

Hi Tory,

You could certainly explore correlating Chiron to the 6th house and get a lot out of it, but I don't give Chiron a fixed rulership placement, if that is what you are asking. Actually, I think of Chiron as correlating to the mutable cross, perhaps with an emphasis on the Virgo/Pisces polarity.

Yes, Chiron's influence is more dynamic in some charts than others. This will depend on the evolutionary development - whether it's been worked on for a long time and is losing the potency of the energy charge, or whether it's building or receding from a peak. Angularity, dynamic aspects, and tightness of orbs are telling in this regard. Transits and progressions are stimulating. Yes, Chiron's nodes are fascinating.

Looks like you are on a good roll so far!

Hi Rose,

Have enjoyed your comments on Chiron, and I also like Melanie Reinhart's book a lot.

Barbara Hand Clow thinks Chiron is the best ruler for Virgo and with all it's healing aspects I can readily relate to that. Melanie Reinhart feels Chiron rules Sagittarius - with all it's mentoring, teaching and natural wisdom aspects I can relate to that too - and she feels Chiron is exalted in Virgo rather than rules it. But both think Chiron is a ruler or co-ruler.

I'm curious why you don't feel Chiron rules or co-rules any sign? Also why you feel instead it is associated with the mutable cross? (... although I can understand your feeling that within that Chiron has an emphasis on the Virgo/Pisces polarity).

thanks

Hi Upasika,
Besides the teaching aspect, Chiron is a visitor or alien to our solar system, which fits aptly with the Sagittarius archetype. Because he is temporarily with us, I am not sure about assigning rulership or co-rulership. (Have we assigned Ceres a rulership yet?) For now, thinking in terms of affinities seems to me a more comfortable notion.

Many blessings and best wishes to all for 2012!

Rose

Thanks Rose,

That does make sense. I have always felt though that Chiron is a bigger player in the chart than the likes of Ceres etc, but for now I'll play with affinities rather than rulerships and see what transpires.

I do find though on a possible co-ruler front, that Chiron so far always works very symbiotically with the the deep healing aspects of the Virgo archetype, which Mercury just doesn't quite seem to stretch to enough for me. I've noticed many events corresponding between them. But I'm also looking forward to getting your book soon too and exploring that as well.

Happy New 2012 also !!

Dear Upasika,

Continuing to reflect on Chiron what i find most interesting, to quote Barbara Hand Clow, is "The asteroids orbit around the Sun and between Mars and Jupiter, Chiron orbits between Saturn and Uranus....when at perihelion (closest to the Sun), Chiron's orbit moves inside the orbit of Saturn; and when at aphelion (farthest from the Sun), its orbit is further out than the perihelion of Uranus, but it does not cross over the orbit of Uranus. Chiron bridges between Saturn and Uranus, and the inner and outer planets." Bridges our physical selves (Saturn/form) with our subtle selves (the outer planets) ie. facilitates progressive merging with the Universe.

Hi Tory,

Yes, I too have read Barbara Clow's book many times, and am very familiar with this understanding of Chiron. To me Chiron very much is the "key" in the search for oneself, in the movement from Saturn to Uranus.

"There is no coming to consciousness without pain" seems inevitably true, and this is where Chiron can be seen operating very clearly. Something has to start fermenting inside us for us to want to look for more in life, and to me it is Chiron that is this yeast. Through the agony and pain of our wounds, or the pain of frustration and helplessness when we cannot fulfill our desires, or the gradual hollow emptiness that can arise even when we do actually fulfill them ... Chiron gradually leads us to the biggest wound of all, the wound of feeling separate and incomplete - the wound that is the ego itself.

And the path is from unconsciousness to consciousness, from consensus to individuation to a spiritual gravity of consciousness - from Capricorn/Saturn (mortality) to Aquarius/Uranus to Pisces/Neptune (immortality). I see Chiron as a yeast working in all aspects of this progression, but is most active in the movement from consensus to individuated, and through individuated.

As I think about it I can possibly see why Rose attributes Chiron to the mutable cross - Sag/Gemini, Virgo/Picses - as it is a key facilitator in the process of change, and amongst other things the mutable cross is all about fluidity and change. As well as Chiron having a strong affinity with Sag and Virgo ... most seem to agree on that. And Chiron also relates to peak experiences (of consciousness) too, so that pulls in Pisces, and also to the learning of the student, which is Gemini. Hmm .. so that's interesting... something I'll explore more. I love Rose's handle on Chiron - it always seems very interesting, vital and spot on!

Hi Upasika,

Many thanks for your insights, very helpful in furthering my understanding of Chiron and of course thanks to Rose as well! This message board is amazing, hope by divine intervention (or natural order) that you and i both make it to this year's EA conference in Nov. Wouldn't that be great!

Love
Tory

Hi Rose,

I really enjoyed your lecture on Chiron from the 2012 EA conference and have re-read your comments on the message board. With that in mind i am wondering how you would read Chiron conjunct the north node of the moon?

Many Thanks Rose.

Hi Tory and all,

When Chiron is conjunct the north node it facilitates the evolutionary forward by creating an added alertness to the content of the north node and thus provides ready access to the tool kit/content found there. It is sensitized point, an alert point, a consciousness raising or "raised consciousness" signature. It can be thought of as a skeleton key, one that unlocks many doors. In Chiron's case, it facilitates a key learning, a specific experiential thread. Through saturation - the repetition or chronic process, Chiron puts intensified concentration and intensified evolutionary pressure on this chart signature. In a sense, Chiron/n. node (or s. node for that matter) holds a particularly magnetized energy charge. Because of this intensified or magnetized activation, one is drawn there. As such it is a signature that serves to accelerate growth and evolution. Chiron cultivates the north node growth potential in a way that may be viewed as fate or destiny at play. This occurs because of the exceptional experience or talents that ignite a sense of déjà vu, the out of the ordinary or beyond one's control experiences that irrevocably alter one's life, or the experiences that replayed with such frequency that the individual feels somewhat trapped or doomed to meet up with the learning over and over.  Those with Chiron on the north node can more readily find/access natural talents and resources that serve their own evolution or that can be used in a healing capacity/in healing service for others. These individuals may more readily find a calling in life, may feel that a path of service has been cut out for them (born to do this). Chiron experiences tend to be a mix of both healing and wounding.

Blessings
