Title: Astrology Software
Post by: charlequin on Apr 09, 2014, 10:01 AM
Hi there,
I'm considering purchasing astrology software for personal use. Any recommendations from those who've experienced one or more programs?

Cheers

Hi Charlequin
Solar Fire is good for Evolutionary Astrology work because it comes with planetary nodes. It has several deficiencies and flaws, but on the overall it is great.

Hi Gonzalo,

What would you say are the main deficiencies and flaws in Solar Fire from an EA point of view?

I also use Solar Fire but find it can be very complicated,
and the instructions are not easy to follow (I need a manual
for the manual!).  However, it is considered one of the best.

A quick way to draw up a chart is through www.astro.com
They have a list of 40,000 asteroids to choose from also.

In the meantime, you can always calculate the South and North
Nodes of any planet using this link:

Oh fantastic! Thanks for the replies everyone :) I'll look into that. Has anyone else ever used Blue Star?

Hi Upasika
I didn't mean flaws specific to EA, but rather a few general failures of the software, for example, when looking at composite progressed charts it doesn't calculate the 'extra ring points' but instead draws the positions of these for the current date and time ... or it tends to shut down when animating charts for a date more than a few centuries ago, etc.

Interesting Gonzalo!

Any other flaws like those? I would like to report them all and try and get them fixed.
And I'd also be interested to know what has struck you as deficiencies from an EA perspective? I could possibly lobby them.

Hi Upasika,
Sorry for my late response. I've been quite busy recently. It sounds like good idea to me. Perhaps some changes/improvements could be introduced to SF that would make it even better for EA work. For example, perhaps planetary nodes of asteroids could be added. If it is ok for you, I will be keeping a record of any other failure or deficiency I notice for a while, for example, during a period of one month, and then send these to you. Would this be ok for you? Perhaps it would be needed that other SF users also record their own observations, because I wonder some failures can be specific to the installed copy of the software.
God Bless, Gonzalo

Hi Gonzalo,

Yes, I can understand about being busy.

And sure, that is fine.
I am happy to gather everybody's experience of flaws in Solar Fire and report these flaws.
Also to gather a list of things we would like in Solar Fire to make it easier to do EA work.

NB: Here is a link to another topic where I have posted about software that calculates the planetary phases between all the points in a chart, plus counts the number of relevant primary lives.
