I Rad, I just wanted to touch base again here.
I am so sorry I have not been able to complete this. Thank you for holding this space and being so patience with me.

I won't be able to complete this practice thread this week with my current responsibilities. I am once again scheduling slots in my calender and intend to post by Thursday the 17th.
With love,

Hi Rad,

Thought I would also update you- I have been at a standstill because of new classes (Spring Quarter) that recently started including one that did not exist previously requiring me to create new curriculum- and as a result I just have not been able to focus much on this thread recently.  Things are starting to settle down now and I will be back on track with working on Darwin's Neptune.  Thank you again for your patience.

love,
Gray

Hi Rad,

Since we're tuning in ... I'm hanging in. Still nowhere near starting but the gap till when I can do that is slowly but steadily reducing. It will be next month for me. With surgery happening mid-May I will be doing it before then. Thanks so much for your patience and guidance.

Hi Rad, here I analyze some of the core elements of Neptune regarding the overall nature of the consciousness of the Soul of Darwin and why that consciousness. This is not exhaustive, nor did I touch upon all of the principals you stated, just a few of them. I got a lot out of this and look forward to reading some other of the posts here. Thank you for this opportunity Rad. God bless.

Analysis of Darwin’s Neptune
Darwin had Neptune in Sag in the 12th house, culminating the 12th house close to the AC. Saturn is in a balsamic conjunction with Neptune. Saturn in Sag in the 12th which rules the 2nd house. In the second house is the Moon in Capricorn which is in a tight semisquare with Neptune – completely culminating the new phase. Neptune itself rules Pisces which is packed and intercepted within the 3rd house. Neptune’s ruler, Jupiter is in Pisces in mutual reception with Neptune. They are in a first quarter phase with one another.

Pluto is in Pisces in the 3rd, again ruled by Neptune and squaring Neptune and Saturn – disseminating square. Mercury is conjunct Pluto and squares Neptune Saturn as well – first quarter square.

The south node of Neptune is conjunct Chiron in Aquarius in the 2nd house and is square to the nodes of the Moon – crescent phase square to the north node in Scorpio in the 11th, disseminating phase square to the south node in Taurus in the 5th. The ruler of the south node of Neptune is Uranus in Scorpio which leads back to Pluto which itself leads back to the Neptune/Jupiter mutual reception.

The north node of Neptune is in Leo in the 8th, also squaring the lunar nodes. The ruler of the north node of Neptune is the Sun in Aquarius in the 2nd house. The ruler of that being Uranus which then leads to the same final rulership as with the south node.

It’s great to finally be working on Neptune with this chart because in many ways his Neptune does represent a bottom line in that it is the final ruler, along with Jupiter, of so many planets and houses in the chart.

Quote
“Consciousness always exists relative to the nature of any form it exists within”
.

This relates to the entire conditioning of the soul: including the totality of all that has conditioned the structural reality of its incarnation, and how the collective consciousness and history of the entire species as well shapes the overall consciousness of the soul. Darwin’s very consciousness was structured in such a way that it sought an underlying philosophical, comsmological perspective that weaves together and integrates an understanding of the totality of the human species itself to explain how the total affects of the past have conditioned all the forms of the present moment.

This soul has become depressed upon itself to reflect upon how the existing form came to be. This soul was not just taking the existing form for granted: the balsamic phase with Neptune and Saturn, Neptune culminating in the 12th, and the strong aspects to the Pisces planets. This lifetime symbolized a profound culmination and point of reflection for this soul. This soul was reflecting upon the total history (Saturn) of the entire species and how that history has created the existing forms. The reason for this was based on a deep emotional need to find cosmological consistency, something that he could believe in and thus provide meaning and context to the totality of his life as well as the totality of life itself.

Within the consciousness of Darwin himself is a long standing history of traveling, seeking, investigating, exploring and finding things out for himself. Yet that movement has a foundation on some very deep past unresolved traumas. A part of that links to a past of being part of groups of people that lived together and gathered together in tribes in order to survive: Sn of Neptune in Aquarius in the 2nd. He has a soul memory of such experiences. There was great wounding relative to two dynamics: One, the lack of community support: that in some way there was the dynamic of “each one for them self”, a lacking of cooperation and sharing (square to the nodes, Taurus/Scorpio axis) within the communities/tribes he has been a part of. This also relates to where various people, upon being born with particular genetics/physical conditions, would be designated to a particular lot in life and role within the community – sometimes being disregarded entirely. Two, and this feels like a core and fundamental dynamics, where tribes of people, various groups, would compete with other tribes for resources including invasions and desecration of land/posessions. With Chiron on the sn of Neptune with the sn of Chiron itself in Aries in the 4th squaring the Moon this soul has been left alone – abandoned and wounded at a core level. Venus in Aries ruling Taurus on the 6th further adds to the past of being alone and feeling inadequate to survive and make it on his own, not having what he needed, and needing to learn to fend for himself against all kinds of adversity and challenges.

One of the main affects this had on the overall consciousness of the soul is that he would eventually begin to picture the ultimate meaning and purpose of life to be random and meaningless. Eventually, he began to picture reality as being a wide open vast space mandated by total chaos. There would also have been lifetimes in which this soul felt utterly abandoned by God (linked to the affects of the Christianity conditioned lifetimes).

This has also affected the soul’s consciousness to the point of experiencing the physical survival elements of life in purely objective, scientific terms: stripped of any love. He eventually dissociated from the sensual and loving relationship to his physical biological reality in order to survive – which itself is linked to a deep loss of innocence due to the dire conditions of survival reality. The current life Moon semi square to Neptune further emphasizes the need for this soul to go inside, get safe, be healed and nourished so that he wasn't just operating on purely mental/objective terms; that he is actually in his body taking care of basic needs. The Moon in so many ways points to how this soul in the life of Darwin was really seeking to ground out and create inner emotional stability after having experienced so much trauma. The semi square being about slowing down and building a life for emotional support and embodiment further emphasizing how much that has lacked in the past.

The implication of this soul having been part of tribes that have traveled/ moved around for the sake of survival is found in Neptune in Sag in the 12th, relative to its south node in Aquarius in the 2nd and its ruler being in Scorpio in the 11th. The underlying cosmology of these tribes was linked to nature itself and navigating with the forces of nature (such as the stars). However with Saturn there with Neptune, and its own sn in Cap in the 2nd, it’s clear that progressively these “natural” cosmologies were replaced by man made versions of God that emphasized absolute moral judgments and thus lead to a great repression of all kinds of natural biological human urges. These cosmologies completely separated humans for their personal and direct relationship with nature.

Thus survival, and the fulfillment of basic human needs and urges, became restricted according to patriarchal judgments and constructs of “what is right”. Relative to Neptune, this soul has needed to place ultimate meaning of a cosmology that would justify such judgement. In other words he needed to completely identify with a religious construct relative to the extent that he carried guilt about his own basic biological needs.

This created a series of lifetimes where this soul would have, again, been a part of various groups of people that deemed themselves to be “saved” because of the nature of their beliefs (group survival dynamics). This became a religious justification for why some people are well to do, and other people are struggling: because of some sort of invisible God that is rewarding those who deserve it and punishing those who don’t. Thus the idea of privilege and status equaling survival and comfort. Again, it brings us back to the sn of Neptune in the 2nd house: issues of survival and ultimate meaning.

As we know, this soul has cyclically been incredibly overwhelmed and distressed by the plethora of questions that would go unanswered. Also, as has been discussed with Saturn, the hypocrisy and moral inconsistencies of the various religious leaders and teachers he was exposed to ultimately lead to a disillusionment.

This disillusionment, relative to the total conditioning of the soul then placed his own personal survival at a very delicate state: how will he survive when there is nothing to believe in?

He has struggled with his own needs for a long time it seems – to survive in a world that, as described above, has no inherent meaning. To cease identification with the church's doctrine places him in a state of groundlessness in terms of where to place his faith. And its clear that there have been past life dynamics of total chaos, living according to no law other than his own - Saturn balsamic to Neptune in Sag in 12th. Creating his own ego-centric reality where the world essentially served him according to whatever his needs were.

Self interest and selfishness, as well as creating trauma for others by way of his self interest was a way of personally working out the loss of meaning in life. Underneath the anarchy was a deep anger and rage at there being no God, nothing to believe in, no one out there to "protect and take care of me". It's a build up of all the trauma and effort this soul has endured to find some sort of meaning as a way of surviving and making his way in the world. Having witnessed and been affected by such evil among many groups of people and such religious corruption has at some point lead to a state of deep anger to the point of giving up on "morality".

Relative to he core egocentric structure of this soul, this has expressed through the psychology of a little boy who is just angry to be out there all alone: Venus in Aries on the IC ruling the sn. It's the Mars in Libra and its square to the Moon as we have discussed that has implied a gravity within his soul to in fact learn cooperation and sharing where he has otherwise gotten "stuck" and in trouble for disregarding "the law". The inner challenge is that while "getting along" nicely in the world was something that he has had to learn - it has also required such a deep repression of all that anger and rage.

His past behaviors of course created great guilt within this soul. The nature of this guilt fundamentally roots in a violation of natural law – which is actually based on the principals of inclusivity, not self interest. The life of Darwin was a healing of that to some extent in which he was able to offer a contribution to society in a way that supported him (livelihood, fame) yet simultaneously served to bring healing and comfort to many many souls in that it offered a cosmological context that held more objective clarity than the blind Christian beliefs of the time. Thus what he offered was a form of forgiveness that stripped away any God-in-sky judgement from reality.

Another dynamic I want to speak to here is one of utter aloneness: Neptune with Saturn in the 12th relative to the sn of Neptune 2nd, with Chiron squaring the nodal axis. This soul has become philosophically/spiritually stubborn and fixed to determine for himself the TRUE nature of things for the sake of his OWN survival. Without a cosmology to back him up, he would be privy to the beliefs of the collective. It is the momentum of the collective beliefs of his time that has propelled this soul to determine the truth out for himself. Otherwise he would be either “lost” or “saved” according to factors beyond his control. Thus his own “survival” mechanism has literally been to utterly detach himself from any perspective, point of view – all the Pisces in the 3rd squaring Neptune – and draw conclusions from his own direct experience.

Quote
“However the collective and individual consciousness of the soul defines the source of creation is exactly how the source will be experienced.”

First, the nature of that principle is just amazing to contemplate. Darwin’s theory of natural selection implies that over time, through a process of natural selection within any species, a species will evolve more and more with the dominant qualities of the traits that are favorable. Within that this also implies that as a species evolves, it will become more and more specialized for a particular ecological niche http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecological_niche (preponderance of specific traits as a result of natural selection) which itself can eventually result in the emergence of a new species. This places the notion of “creation” as a process that is shaped entirely by preferences within any species which, by way of the preferences, will dictate the direction and course of any species' evolution. In natural selection there is no intentional choice or ability to direct evolution (as opposed to artificial selection: when humans intentionally breed certain traits in species) but rather only a natural process of any biological species seeking optimal conditions for survival.

This directly points to a relationship with “god” or “source of creation” that is entirely oriented towards the collective intention within all species to survive. It is stripped of love and there is no notion of divine providence, of principals of cause and effect that operate on more subtler planes. This soul would perceive, Pluto Pisces 3rd, reality as having no inherent meaning other than natural biological processes that dictate all of reality. The ultimate meaning and source of creation itself would be the biological impulse to orient towards better life conditions and the evolutionary process that results because of such impulses.

Quote
“How the awareness of the Whole by any one Soul can correlate to how that one Soul gives itself to the needs of that Whole in order for that Whole to be served and sustained because of that giving.”

As stated, Darwin was supplying a collective need for greater meaning and understanding. At a time when there was a prevalent dogma and, within the consensus, scientific views that tended to always in some way harmonize with the biblical views, Darwin saw himself as on a special mission to, in a sense, save those who are needing to see the truth. He wouldn't have thought of it as “saving” though he would have pictured himself to have a special role to play. His own sn in Taurus in the 5th and the south node of Neptune in Aquarius in the 2nd relative to natal Neptune points to this soul’s natural ability and sense of “purpose” to actualize a creative purpose for the masses, all by himself. He would have been devoted to this work – not just for his own personal survival and success (though that was a very real reality for him) but also, deep within because of a true compassion for other humans and a desire to alleviate their own suffering. This is an inherent truth within this soul – as he has faced such immense suffering due to the extremes of religious belief and group traumas. On a purely emotional level, perhaps a level he would not have been able to reconcile with, he would have a feeling of having served a higher purpose that he was destined to serve.

The north node of Neptune being in Leo in the 8th house which by rulership takes us back to the 2nd and then back to the 11th house. This growth for this soul has been and is to "get out of the well" which would perpetuate a very narrow and purely mental scope of life experience. Neptune in Sag in the 12th relative to Leo in the 8th and trining one another is about commitment to share with the world a personal creative actualization which then takes him beyond the narrow scope his own karmic pattern of feeling alienated and not fitting in anywhere. With the ruler, the Sun, being int he 2nd house - it implies a re-creation of his orientation to survival: to share and create something inspiring for the world.

This ultimately adds the dimension of Love. For he loved his work and he found genuine joy and the emotional of connectiveness in pondering and writing about the nature of reality. It's these emotions of joy and connectiveness that are the seeds for this soul's blossoming spirituality which will ultimately re-shape his notion and understanding of survival and evolution itself.

With love

Hi Ari,

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I am having real problems in my internet connection: the famous intermittent connection thing. I have to get this resolved before I can respond to anything right now.

Hi Ari,

First, thanks again for taking the time to do your EA analysis of Darwin's Neptune, and for the entire amount of time you have committed too that spans this entire thread.

Your EA analysis of Darwin's Neptune is simply wonderful, accurate, and brilliant EA work that ties together the entire birth chart of Darwin relative to the core EA paradigm itself. Because of this you have now created the WHOLE PICTURE of the evolutionary journey of the Soul of Darwin himself.

It is brilliant EA work Ari. Bravo !!

Hi Rad,

An update on my situation. I have surgery next week. And I have learnt recently that the prognosis for my surgery rehabilitation is now quite a bit longer than I was initially led to believe. Originally I had planned to be finishing work last week, with this week free to do things for myself before the surgery, including doing the Neptune assignment for Darwin.

But with the recovery time now predicted to be twice as long as I thought I'm having to keep working this week so I have enough money on hand to see me through the longer recovery period when I won't be able to work. So unfortunately this means I simply will not have any time before I go in for surgery to do this last assignment. I'm very sorry about this, it wasn't what I had planned at all.

So if you need to move ahead and finalise the thread without this last one from me I would fully understand of course. But if you are ok to wait till I'm back on my feet I'd make it one of the first things I'd do. It's very hard to predict when that might be though. Initially they said 6 weeks rehab, not able to work, now its been stretched to 8 to 12 weeks. All depends on how well it goes etc.

My apologies, it has caught me by surprise.

Hi Upasika,

Well your health is the most important thing of all. So of course you need to do what you need to do. If you want to do this final segment it is, of course, entirely up to you.

Gonzalo and Gray: Please let me know your plans about this.

Hi Rad,

Well, this thread has been an unexpected kind of journey. As Ari said so well, it has been hugely strengthening, and also I've felt doing it plus learning from everyone else's posts has stretched me to new levels too.

So even though this last part has dragged on a lot, after having got this far and also for the sake of completion for myself, I'm still into doing Neptune. As I say not sure when I'd be able to get to it - in two or three months perhaps. So if from your side you don't mind waiting, then yes, I very much would like to finish it.

However, if that's all a bit too long or far away for you Rad, and you need to move along with things, then I would fully understand and be OK with that.

Hi Rad and group,

Rad, now I am posting my brief analysis of some aspects of Darwin’s Neptune. It’s been quite a difficult stage in this thread and methodology. I have only tried to make sense of a few intuitions I’ve gotten about these symbols. I’ve felt there is a lot more to these archetypes, that I would have liked to really understand in more depth-just diffuse intuitions, not even specific questions! It’s been quite elusive to me. But to me these are also archetypes about simplification, so finally I am coming with what I got by now, and hoping this makes sense within the context of the thread.

Upasika, my wishes and prayers for a successful surgery and prompt recovery are with you. Hope everything will be fine. I will write to you soon about the SF thing.

Working on this thread on Darwin’s chart has been an amazing and fascinating experience about the depth of the EA archetypes and methodologies. Also, about Darwin’s Soul.  Thank you so much, Rad, for guiding us through this journey.

Rad, just if it is possible and convenient, I wonder if you would like to share with us a bit about Darwin’s Soul evolutionary future or lives after the life as Darwin.

God Bless, Gonzalo

***************************************************************************

Neptune in the 12th House in Sagittarius reflects the natural unity within consciousness experienced in matriarchal times as a natural communion with the Whole. This experience occurred in ways comprehensible from the point of view of the existing societies, and were part of the collective consciousness of those times. This can be seen in Neptune being conjunct Saturn, Neptune forming a sextile to the 10th House cusp, and the south node of Neptune in the 2nd House trine to the 10th House cusp: types of experiences which conformed to the social background or the mainstream paradigm, or, better said, which were on the root of those cultures and societies or communities or tribes in how they perceived themselves as connected to the whole of Nature and the Cosmos. Neptune in Sagittarius in the 12th House reflects that underlying principles and natural laws serving to explain the larger framework of connections with the whole of Nature and the Cosmos were naturally intuited or directly known in those natural times, rather than coming from ‘belief systems’ which appeared later in the story of the human species on Earth. Direct knowledge was realized through contemplation or experience of Nature. With all the Pisces planets in the 3rd House including Pluto, Jupiter in mutual reception with Neptune, and Mercury, knowledge about Nature was also gained through communication, and Nature was perceived by the Soul as being in state of perpetual communication with itself through all or some of its parts by means of all types of natural language flows.

Neptune in Sagittarius in the 12th House correlates with a general underlying theme of a ‘Paradise lost’ because of Neptune’s south node ruler being Uranus in Scorpio in the 11th House which is conjunct the North Node, this Uranus ruling the 3rd House which contains all the Pisces intercepted planets and Pluto, reflecting a series of traumas of various types of individual and collective nature, leading to inner confrontations and an ongoing questioning about the underlying natural laws which would explain why such experiences. With the south node of Neptune in the 2nd House conjunct Chiron squaring the nodal axis and Uranus in Scorpio in the 11th House, these types of collective traumas include episodes of extinction of large groups. Thus, the questioning has been also triggered by the survival instinct.

Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House are also symbols of nomadic and shamanistic cultures of birth in prior lifetimes, and through Neptune rulership of all the Pisces planets in the 3rd House, to the progressive settlement leading o sedentary and urban forms of life. Uranus conjunct the North Node in the 11th House ruling Aquarius in the 3rd House, with all the Pisces planets and Pluto there, reflects existing groups, and communities within groups, which possessed a more evolved, individuated or spiritual understanding of the underlying basis, and natural laws and larger framework. These groups in turn impacted on the collective of the tribe or society of birth, their collective consciousness/unconscious, and were on the basis of their types of culture. Within this, it was also something, some type of knowledge, or some connection with the source of knowledge that became the basis for authority because natural laws defined the nature of the social order. The ongoing process led to cultures or societies which later developed specialized people who served this connection with the sacred, or so they thought, for the social group. The figure of the prophet and the priest, within an ongoing formalization of the vision of God for the community. Same time, there is an ongoing formalization of God’s will into religions, with precepts, ‘laws’, etc. And there is a progressive accumulation or recording of observations, knowledge, signs in general, and opinions … in a collective process that would continue for millennia, resulting in a linguistic and literary reality which progressively appears for those who live within this ‘universe’ as reality itself, or which is referred to, when referring to reality. This has become a defacto substitute for actual experience or realization, and creates a difficulty for intuition for many Souls.

Why would the species evolve this intellectual orientation to knowledge and these intellectual capacities, and then, take them to a maximum degree? This seems to point at the biological instinct of survival of the species and how the species is meant to organize itself, ie. communities or tribes or societies which are inclusive of all their members and defined by sharing resources. The species has had the potential to evolve in an accelerated mode through the accumulation of knowledge or information. At a collective level, the important development of the brain which has allowed to consciously manipulate and communicate large amounts of information, has lead, because of population growth, to enormous volumes of information about everything at a level of planetary interconnectedness which has made all this available for individuals and groups. In earlier times, this was reflected in libraries for example, which have existed for at least a couple of millenia already.

Same time, an evolutionary need is triggered or intensified of individuation relative to the contents of the collective subconscious/consciousness, an intention which can also be accelerated by recurring to specific information contained within the accumulated knowledge of the species. Individuation implies further connectedness to perceive what is true and what is not true, thus a liberation from prior opinions or beliefs which have taken the place of true knowledge. By itself individuation is not something needing to occur through ‘intellectual’ dynamics or accessing large volumes of information through reading books, etc. However, there are at the same time collective evolutionary intentions to use these contents and to elaborate further knowledge of all types which can serve the collective evolutionary needs of the species and the planet. Teilhard de Chardin thought of this universe as a Noosphere serving the collective human evolution within an advanced stage, a process he thought about as defined by increasing complexity as necessary for increased consciousness at a collective level.

Neptune being in Sagittarius in the 12th House, in its connection to the 3rd House Pisces, implies desires to know how the absolute manifests in relative terms, ie. how is it that the Absolute manifests the relative, what is the relative, is it of the same nature or of a totally different nature than the Absolute. These desires are in the basis for Darwin’s desires to understand Nature. Space-time is a 10th House Capricorn archetype, however the natural inconjunct from Gemini to Capricorn implies that the linear and sequencial nature of language/thought is conditioned by space-time, and the structure of consciousness conditions how the surrounding and phenomenal reality is experienced by the Soul. Thus, thought forms display within a time-space based relative, linear and sequential reality, and connect the time present of the experience, or a direct intuition of the phenomena, with a time which is threefold, ie. past, present and future. They always imply a point of view or the position of an ‘observer’ and thus, they are relative within space-time coordinates. The Source has created a dualistic and relativistic Creation. This is not something inherent only to language or thought. Rather, it is inherent to the nature of Creation. However, it can be made explicit and self-transparent in language. Or perhaps this occurs primarily within conscious awareness, and then language can try to communicate it, or to allude it: that it is relative, that it is not ultimately real, and so on. At the same time, that it can have some meaning that speech, words, can suggest or reveal which is being noticed or experienced within the relative coordinates of the speech situation. Whatever is thought, seems to be real. While there is a natural square between Gemini and Pisces, the 3rd House and the 12th House-reflecting a crisis in how intuition or awareness can be communicated or put into words-there is a natural sextile between Pisces and Capricorn, reflecting how easy consciousness and meaning are projected into existing forms and parameters, this resulting in an investment of the thought forms which can confirm the sense of reality which is conditioned by the parameters. Many humans need to create the experience of error or mistake, which challenge their intellectual organization, in order to change and evolve their ways of thinking, and to question their parameters or sense of what is real.

Because linear thought organization and construction of reality provides a relative sense of security it has the potential to become a defacto substitute for reality. Because of the natural sextile between Pisces and Capricorn, it is easy for the intellect to create any organization or construction which seems to be real and complete. Mercury is paradoxical in having apparently contradicting roles. On one side, thought forms can aid in realizing their own emptiness, and potentially, the ultimate nature of reality. On the other side, thought forms are intimately united to time-space local circumstances. Given that Mercury is the natural Virgo ruler, this connects with the nature of crises within consciousness in its relation with Nature in that the consciousness experienced itself as disconnected from Nature. There is also the idea of a ‘fallen nature’ and of the consciousness being a type of exile from a place of more dignity where the Soul would not be exposed to the vicissitudes and onslaughts of a relative and imperfect reality. And at the same time, the nature of the same crisis induced a development of the thought function in order to serve the survival instinct, conditioning materialistic, instrumental or technical developments of the mind, especially in the West. Within these symbols connecting Neptune and Mercury the archetypical dynamic is also involved of key pieces of information or knowledge, or doctrines, which are deemed or suposed to be capable of arranging the total experience into some type of simple scheme which would allow for a redistribution of concepts and thoughts which is experienced as understanding or as some sort of ‘enlightenment’, like in the talismans and symbols of the Gnostics. Also, a resulting expectation that specific pieces of information or knowledge would provide a ‘key’ serving to understand the whole.

There is an overall theme about mediation, of knowledge being mediated through various forms which are social in nature, in that they refer or imply connections to specialized knowledge forms existing within the culture, ie. contents within the collective consciousness/unconscious, which make sense from the point of view of how these knowledge forms are put together and defined and connected among themselves and with other thought forms in increasing levels of specialization and complexity, versus immediately referring to their objects, and which are in use by communities. Why would the Soul in its quest for knowledge and understanding recur to these types of knowledge forms? Again, because of the vast amounts of information, knowledge, and understanding that are contained therein, however combined with error, with mere opinions, beliefs, assumptions, etc.  As we have seen in prior posts in this thread, Darwin’s Soul has alternated along many lifetimes between wanting to osmose socially constructed forms of knowledge, and generate knowledge that can fit within the social schemes of knowledge production on one side, and on the other side, intense desires to liberate from these types of parameters in order to access knowledge in direct ways (this can be seen in Pluto in the 3rd House with the South Node in the 5th House ruled by Venus in Aries in the 3rd House, ruled by Mars in the 10th House, Neptune in Sagittarius being conjunct Saturn, and Neptune ruling all the 3rd House planets, and the North Node being conjunct Uranus in Scorpio, again ruled by Pluto in the 3rd House in Pisces). Also, we have seen that an alternation has existed between fully embracing the desires to know, and massive crises in the orientation to knowledge which have resulted in not wanting to know, or not believing that knowledge is possible: skepticism, nihilism, agnosticism (also Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House ruling all the Pisces planets in the 3rd House, the Pluto polarity point being Virgo in the 9th House-crises in beliefs becoming crisis in perspective).

Within the theme of a paradise lost originating from prior lives collective and individual traumas- which have been talked about extensively and deeply in this thread-and the resulting questioning about the underlying natural laws-there is also a questioning about the nature of ‘evil’, not necessarily evil only in a metaphysical or proper sense, but also as the questioning about how that which does not work, that which falls, fails, breaks down, or dies, as a part of a ‘fallen’ Nature is contemplated and is a part within a larger scheme. With Uranus being in the 11th House Scorpio, relative to Neptune in the 12th House, and Pisces intercepted within the 3rd House, this questioning has led to ways of understanding based on duality, or in a fragmentation of forces interacting within Creation. Thus, different dualistic cosmologies have been gravitated to, including cosmologies in which Creation is considered not to be created by God, but by some fallen god or demiurge, such as the cosmologies of Mani or Basilides, involving a polarization between Spirit and matter, and ‘flesh’, and, light and dark, this then coming into the current lifetime and recent prior lifetimes as desires to again intuit the inherent Unity within Nature and Creation, ie., how duality is contained within Unity, and how life is stronger than death. The duality has also been a source of intense inner polarization of forces within those cosmologies his Soul has gravitated to in the past, and from which the Soul has needed to individuate. This individuation would progressively lead into a form of Pantheism, in which, through the intuition of Spirit within matter, matter is recovered in some ways.

A dual orientation and response have existed to the collective unconscious/consciousness, because on one side there is a permeating orientation to unite with these contents-Pluto in the 3rd House ruled by Neptune in the 12th House- and also a need to detach and individuate from these same contents –Uranus 11th House, Aquarius on the 3rd House cusp-in order to understand objectively what the underlying Natural laws are, in contrast with beliefs and invented cosmologies. Both dual orientations are based at their core on desires to know the origin of everything, either directly, or through explanations and systems that give account of the known, or speculate about the unknown. Within the conflict between desires to unite with and osmose belief systems and bodies of knowledge, and the desires to detach and liberate from these systems in order to have direct experience, the intention –however conditioned by other desires in the birthchart as we have seen- would be based on desires to find shortcuts, to get to know quicker, by recurring to the pre-existing knowledge forms, knowledge put together by others within the collective, with the risk however of confusion or over-identification with knowledge which is not actual knowledge.

The Saturn Balsamic conjunction to Neptune reflects a whole cycle of development which is coming to a close, between the conditioned and formed and the unconditioned and formless, in which the formed and conditioned is being absorbed and dissolved by the unconditioned and formless. At one level, Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House correlates with pre-existing ideas and belief structures. Their dissolution reflects the potential access to the phenomena themselves, which, in turn, has allowed a new distribution of contents. Thus, concepts serving a cosmic purpose, and manifesting universal laws of Nature. Same time, concepts or ideas which were deemed as immutable or eternal by the Soul, which are giving place to a more vivid experience of phenomenal reality. Personally I don’t know if a plane of pure and unchanging ideas exist-such the sky of ideas of Plato, or an Unmanifest reality beyond phenomenal Creation which would be unchanging as Spiritual traditions speak about. Who knows? I rather think that these ideas perhaps in a big part actually result from the patriarchal devaluation of Nature, and the repression of the own nature which has induced emotional insecurity and an ‘elevation’ of contents to a ‘transcendent’ plane, where they cannot be affected by the ever changing nature of phenomenal existence. In Darwin’s chart, Saturn ruling the 2nd House and all the Capricorn south nodes and the Moon, being in the 12th House conjunct Neptune, and being ruled by Jupiter in Pisces, are symbols of contents the Soul has desired to elevate to a transcendent status in prior lifetimes, and which are culminating a process which is taking these contents back to where they belong: they are being embodied and grounded within the nature of phenomena, and Nature, ie. Kali, the Mother, which encompasses perpetual change, versus Brahma, the changeless and untouchable Creator. Dissolution of thought structures is revealing that which the Soul desired to place in a pure ultimate realm of immutable nature, as it naturally exists within the immanence of Creation. In turn, dissolution of concepts the Soul wanted to be untouchable by change is allowing integration of emotional contents within the personal boundaries of personality, sensation, and feeling. I would say that a fundamental reason for Darwin’s Soul desires to know the truth of Nature is rooted in this necessary orientation that is leading him back to the Mother.

If we could know all the phenomena, then we could be able to ask about and intuit all the natural laws which are manifested in and are the cause or explanation of the phenomena. As Darwin wrote in Origin: “If we possessed a perfect pedigree of mankind, a genealogical arrangement of the races of man would afford the best classification of the various languages now spoken throughout the world; and if all extinct languages, and all intermediate and slowly changing dialects, were to be included, such an arrangement would be the only possible one.” Same time, if we had an understanding of all the natural laws which operate within Nature, or some field within Nature, such knowledge would allow us to deduce exactly what the resulting phenomena would be. We don´t possess an understanding or knowledge of either type, and hence, our knowledge and understanding are limited and relative. And though, we still need to ‘know’ and in fact the human species has developed vast amounts of knowledge about the material world. Knowledge is a fact, but how is it that knowledge develops despite the limitations encountered by the inductive and generalizing and the deductive Soul faculties, demonstrated by the universal experience of error?  While Darwin’s Soul has been more focused on the existing desires to know and understand Nature, rather than wanting to philosophically understand what are the conditions or possibilities for such knowledge, we know because of Pluto and the stellium of Planets in the 3rd House in Pisces and Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House, etc., that his Soul has inwardly attempted various orientations to knowledge, and has had intense inner confrontations around the difficulty to make sense of the phenomenal world of Nature: how to make sense of the immense variety of species, and their variations, how to conduct this variety into a unity that allow to perceive Nature as a whole which contains and explains how the variation of the species has come to be.

The problem of what is possible to know or not within Nature, from a rational point of view, is conditioned by the parameters that define whether Nature, or animals, etc., are intelligent beings, or on the contrary, beings which operate only as conditioned by materialistic blind causal forces. If Nature, and species, were deemed to be non-intelligent, then the idea of a purposefulness in the arrangement of Nature, that would lead the species to evolve, would have to be denied necessarily; or alternatively, such purposefulness or intelligent arrangement would need to be attributed to an external creator or agent. Again, these alternatives have been created as a result of the incepted conflict between Spirit and flesh, the repression of the natural instincts of the human species, and the underlying overall devaluation of the feminine nature.

Darwin’s scientific intentions were place in a historical context in which, on one side, Creationism based on religious doctrine needed to be abandoned. Newton had demonstrated that planets were in their orbits because of immanent forces of Nature, and not a direct action by God. This in turn fed desires to eliminate the idea of purposefulness from scientific understanding in general, and explain Nature from purely materialistic points of view.

Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House ruling the 3rd House Pisces correlate with the dynamic of judgment. It is through the dynamic of judgment that consciousness creates new knowledge, by relating the known to whatever manifestation in reality the nature of which becomes more defined or known through the process of judgment. This is true for deductive judgment where the particular is judged to be comprised within a concept or larger category, and for inductive judgment which attempts to grasp the general concept or category which contain the particular manifestations. However, it is not enough with deduction/induction except when dealing with concepts which are already defined or when all the particulars are known. When such conditions don’t exist, imagination is required. In order for imagination to become actively involved, a sort of natural ‘faith’ is necessary, a faith in an underlying order or explanation beyond the concepts already available. Here lies another reason for Darwin’s Soul to engage in an understanding of Nature: within biological forms, it is self-evident that parts are contained within an organic whole, and make sense as a part of the complete organism. Thus, Neptune in Sagittarius reflects the ongoing need to focus on the whole first, in order to allow parts to make sense in their relation with the whole. In Darwin’s case, he needed to focus on the whole of Nature, and species in general, rather that only some specifics. Focusing on the whole first, he then needed to allow a ‘free floating’ of accumulated information/facts, and perceived patterns within this enormous volume of data, in order first, for the necessary dissolution of what still needed to be dissolved and individuated from, and then, for the intuition/imagination of the underlying natural laws to emerge, which would serve to explain how species evolve. This further required to embrace a sense of natural faith, or an intuition of an underlying larger order in how such variety generates. This is interesting to me because this type of intuition or natural faith allows to think ‘as if’ such order exists, while it is not yet perceived, and then would allow to actually discover such underlying patterns or laws. This would be an inherent capacity of human cognition, which, progressively, would allow to make sense of any aspect of material reality from an individual and collective point of view. Further, Neptune in Sagittarius with its north node ruler the Sun in the 2nd House in Aquarius, reflects an ongoing mind simplification resulting from the progressive intuition of the larger arrangement of biological phenomena, allowing the mind to rest, and being itself a vehicle for such intuition to emerge within consciousness. It seems fascinating to me that, coming from the incepted conflict between spirit and matter, and the higher and lower, Darwin came in fact to a point of resolution by means of demonstrating that purposefulness or intelligent arrangement within Nature in fact occurs through the instinctual nature of the biological species: their instinct of survival and the sexual instinct. The Sun in Aquarius in the 2nd House, a natural Venus House, reflects a type of aesthetical contemplation that was required for this to occur, which is exactly what Kant proposed to be necessary in order to make sense of the phenomena when the logical basis for judgment are not complete or exhaustive, because contemplation of Nature, or art, demands to go beyond any parameters that would condition what is considered to be real beforehand. Introducing purposefulness at the level of instinct as the vehicle through which the whole of Nature creates its amazing variety, including the human species and its higher faculties within in a continuum of evolution, is in fact a reconciliation of opposites that existed as such along many lifetimes in Darwin’s Soul.

Also, my feeling is that Neptune/Saturn in the 12th House in Sagittarius conjunct the Ascendant, and the Pisces stellium in the 3rd House, reflect the Soul’s desires to heal its orientation to knowledge and cognition, and specifically its intuitive and imaginative capacities. Also, to heal the nature of instinct, and the sexual instinct and nature, which in turn is serving to metamorphose the Soul’s relatedness with itself. Interesting that asteroid Panacea is conjunct Neptune, and this could reflect that a large part of the healing his Soul desires and needs could come through healing these dynamics and archetypes.

Nice work Gonzalo.  There are moments when I feel like taking a stab at this, but other things get in the way.  One thing that keeps popping into my consciousness when I look at this thread is the phrase "the collective consciousness."

As you point out, " Creationism based on religious doctrine needed to be abandoned."  Darwin lived during a time in which the collective consciousness in relation to western religion was focused on just that, a belief in creationism. This belief was instilled in the collective mind of western man. Darwin with his Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th had a desire to dissolve that belief/conditioning and replace it with with a different truth which he perceived on an unconscious level and communicated facts and data that backed up what sprang from his unconscious mind and intuition.  He also had a desire to communicate his findings and the evidence to back up his theories to the masses.  Most all of this is seen in the placement of Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th and the aspects these planets make to Mercury, Pluto and Jupiter in Pisces in the 3rd. In doing so, he then unconsciously had a major effect on the collective consciousness of the western mind. In challenging a major belief of the collective consciousness, he helped evolve the collective consciousness. It's all quite fascinating how that all played out in his chart, which both you and Ari did a wonderful job of describing!
