Hi Rad and group,
Rad, now I am posting my brief analysis of some aspects of Darwin’s Neptune. It’s been quite a difficult stage in this thread and methodology. I have only tried to make sense of a few intuitions I’ve gotten about these symbols. I’ve felt there is a lot more to these archetypes, that I would have liked to really understand in more depth-just diffuse intuitions, not even specific questions! It’s been quite elusive to me. But to me these are also archetypes about simplification, so finally I am coming with what I got by now, and hoping this makes sense within the context of the thread.
Upasika, my wishes and prayers for a successful surgery and prompt recovery are with you. Hope everything will be fine. I will write to you soon about the SF thing.
Working on this thread on Darwin’s chart has been an amazing and fascinating experience about the depth of the EA archetypes and methodologies. Also, about Darwin’s Soul. Thank you so much, Rad, for guiding us through this journey.
Rad, just if it is possible and convenient, I wonder if you would like to share with us a bit about Darwin’s Soul evolutionary future or lives after the life as Darwin.
God Bless, Gonzalo

Neptune in the 12th House in Sagittarius reflects the natural unity within consciousness experienced in matriarchal times as a natural communion with the Whole. This experience occurred in ways comprehensible from the point of view of the existing societies, and were part of the collective consciousness of those times. This can be seen in Neptune being conjunct Saturn, Neptune forming a sextile to the 10th House cusp, and the south node of Neptune in the 2nd House trine to the 10th House cusp: types of experiences which conformed to the social background or the mainstream paradigm, or, better said, which were on the root of those cultures and societies or communities or tribes in how they perceived themselves as connected to the whole of Nature and the Cosmos. Neptune in Sagittarius in the 12th House reflects that underlying principles and natural laws serving to explain the larger framework of connections with the whole of Nature and the Cosmos were naturally intuited or directly known in those natural times, rather than coming from ‘belief systems’ which appeared later in the story of the human species on Earth. Direct knowledge was realized through contemplation or experience of Nature. With all the Pisces planets in the 3rd House including Pluto, Jupiter in mutual reception with Neptune, and Mercury, knowledge about Nature was also gained through communication, and Nature was perceived by the Soul as being in state of perpetual communication with itself through all or some of its parts by means of all types of natural language flows.
Neptune in Sagittarius in the 12th House correlates with a general underlying theme of a ‘Paradise lost’ because of Neptune’s south node ruler being Uranus in Scorpio in the 11th House which is conjunct the North Node, this Uranus ruling the 3rd House which contains all the Pisces intercepted planets and Pluto, reflecting a series of traumas of various types of individual and collective nature, leading to inner confrontations and an ongoing questioning about the underlying natural laws which would explain why such experiences. With the south node of Neptune in the 2nd House conjunct Chiron squaring the nodal axis and Uranus in Scorpio in the 11th House, these types of collective traumas include episodes of extinction of large groups. Thus, the questioning has been also triggered by the survival instinct.
Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House are also symbols of nomadic and shamanistic cultures of birth in prior lifetimes, and through Neptune rulership of all the Pisces planets in the 3rd House, to the progressive settlement leading o sedentary and urban forms of life. Uranus conjunct the North Node in the 11th House ruling Aquarius in the 3rd House, with all the Pisces planets and Pluto there, reflects existing groups, and communities within groups, which possessed a more evolved, individuated or spiritual understanding of the underlying basis, and natural laws and larger framework. These groups in turn impacted on the collective of the tribe or society of birth, their collective consciousness/unconscious, and were on the basis of their types of culture. Within this, it was also something, some type of knowledge, or some connection with the source of knowledge that became the basis for authority because natural laws defined the nature of the social order. The ongoing process led to cultures or societies which later developed specialized people who served this connection with the sacred, or so they thought, for the social group. The figure of the prophet and the priest, within an ongoing formalization of the vision of God for the community. Same time, there is an ongoing formalization of God’s will into religions, with precepts, ‘laws’, etc. And there is a progressive accumulation or recording of observations, knowledge, signs in general, and opinions … in a collective process that would continue for millennia, resulting in a linguistic and literary reality which progressively appears for those who live within this ‘universe’ as reality itself, or which is referred to, when referring to reality. This has become a defacto substitute for actual experience or realization, and creates a difficulty for intuition for many Souls.
Why would the species evolve this intellectual orientation to knowledge and these intellectual capacities, and then, take them to a maximum degree? This seems to point at the biological instinct of survival of the species and how the species is meant to organize itself, ie. communities or tribes or societies which are inclusive of all their members and defined by sharing resources. The species has had the potential to evolve in an accelerated mode through the accumulation of knowledge or information. At a collective level, the important development of the brain which has allowed to consciously manipulate and communicate large amounts of information, has lead, because of population growth, to enormous volumes of information about everything at a level of planetary interconnectedness which has made all this available for individuals and groups. In earlier times, this was reflected in libraries for example, which have existed for at least a couple of millenia already.
Same time, an evolutionary need is triggered or intensified of individuation relative to the contents of the collective subconscious/consciousness, an intention which can also be accelerated by recurring to specific information contained within the accumulated knowledge of the species. Individuation implies further connectedness to perceive what is true and what is not true, thus a liberation from prior opinions or beliefs which have taken the place of true knowledge. By itself individuation is not something needing to occur through ‘intellectual’ dynamics or accessing large volumes of information through reading books, etc. However, there are at the same time collective evolutionary intentions to use these contents and to elaborate further knowledge of all types which can serve the collective evolutionary needs of the species and the planet. Teilhard de Chardin thought of this universe as a Noosphere serving the collective human evolution within an advanced stage, a process he thought about as defined by increasing complexity as necessary for increased consciousness at a collective level.
Neptune being in Sagittarius in the 12th House, in its connection to the 3rd House Pisces, implies desires to know how the absolute manifests in relative terms, ie. how is it that the Absolute manifests the relative, what is the relative, is it of the same nature or of a totally different nature than the Absolute. These desires are in the basis for Darwin’s desires to understand Nature. Space-time is a 10th House Capricorn archetype, however the natural inconjunct from Gemini to Capricorn implies that the linear and sequencial nature of language/thought is conditioned by space-time, and the structure of consciousness conditions how the surrounding and phenomenal reality is experienced by the Soul. Thus, thought forms display within a time-space based relative, linear and sequential reality, and connect the time present of the experience, or a direct intuition of the phenomena, with a time which is threefold, ie. past, present and future. They always imply a point of view or the position of an ‘observer’ and thus, they are relative within space-time coordinates. The Source has created a dualistic and relativistic Creation. This is not something inherent only to language or thought. Rather, it is inherent to the nature of Creation. However, it can be made explicit and self-transparent in language. Or perhaps this occurs primarily within conscious awareness, and then language can try to communicate it, or to allude it: that it is relative, that it is not ultimately real, and so on. At the same time, that it can have some meaning that speech, words, can suggest or reveal which is being noticed or experienced within the relative coordinates of the speech situation. Whatever is thought, seems to be real. While there is a natural square between Gemini and Pisces, the 3rd House and the 12th House-reflecting a crisis in how intuition or awareness can be communicated or put into words-there is a natural sextile between Pisces and Capricorn, reflecting how easy consciousness and meaning are projected into existing forms and parameters, this resulting in an investment of the thought forms which can confirm the sense of reality which is conditioned by the parameters. Many humans need to create the experience of error or mistake, which challenge their intellectual organization, in order to change and evolve their ways of thinking, and to question their parameters or sense of what is real.
Because linear thought organization and construction of reality provides a relative sense of security it has the potential to become a defacto substitute for reality. Because of the natural sextile between Pisces and Capricorn, it is easy for the intellect to create any organization or construction which seems to be real and complete. Mercury is paradoxical in having apparently contradicting roles. On one side, thought forms can aid in realizing their own emptiness, and potentially, the ultimate nature of reality. On the other side, thought forms are intimately united to time-space local circumstances. Given that Mercury is the natural Virgo ruler, this connects with the nature of crises within consciousness in its relation with Nature in that the consciousness experienced itself as disconnected from Nature. There is also the idea of a ‘fallen nature’ and of the consciousness being a type of exile from a place of more dignity where the Soul would not be exposed to the vicissitudes and onslaughts of a relative and imperfect reality. And at the same time, the nature of the same crisis induced a development of the thought function in order to serve the survival instinct, conditioning materialistic, instrumental or technical developments of the mind, especially in the West. Within these symbols connecting Neptune and Mercury the archetypical dynamic is also involved of key pieces of information or knowledge, or doctrines, which are deemed or suposed to be capable of arranging the total experience into some type of simple scheme which would allow for a redistribution of concepts and thoughts which is experienced as understanding or as some sort of ‘enlightenment’, like in the talismans and symbols of the Gnostics. Also, a resulting expectation that specific pieces of information or knowledge would provide a ‘key’ serving to understand the whole.
There is an overall theme about mediation, of knowledge being mediated through various forms which are social in nature, in that they refer or imply connections to specialized knowledge forms existing within the culture, ie. contents within the collective consciousness/unconscious, which make sense from the point of view of how these knowledge forms are put together and defined and connected among themselves and with other thought forms in increasing levels of specialization and complexity, versus immediately referring to their objects, and which are in use by communities. Why would the Soul in its quest for knowledge and understanding recur to these types of knowledge forms? Again, because of the vast amounts of information, knowledge, and understanding that are contained therein, however combined with error, with mere opinions, beliefs, assumptions, etc. As we have seen in prior posts in this thread, Darwin’s Soul has alternated along many lifetimes between wanting to osmose socially constructed forms of knowledge, and generate knowledge that can fit within the social schemes of knowledge production on one side, and on the other side, intense desires to liberate from these types of parameters in order to access knowledge in direct ways (this can be seen in Pluto in the 3rd House with the South Node in the 5th House ruled by Venus in Aries in the 3rd House, ruled by Mars in the 10th House, Neptune in Sagittarius being conjunct Saturn, and Neptune ruling all the 3rd House planets, and the North Node being conjunct Uranus in Scorpio, again ruled by Pluto in the 3rd House in Pisces). Also, we have seen that an alternation has existed between fully embracing the desires to know, and massive crises in the orientation to knowledge which have resulted in not wanting to know, or not believing that knowledge is possible: skepticism, nihilism, agnosticism (also Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House ruling all the Pisces planets in the 3rd House, the Pluto polarity point being Virgo in the 9th House-crises in beliefs becoming crisis in perspective).
Within the theme of a paradise lost originating from prior lives collective and individual traumas- which have been talked about extensively and deeply in this thread-and the resulting questioning about the underlying natural laws-there is also a questioning about the nature of ‘evil’, not necessarily evil only in a metaphysical or proper sense, but also as the questioning about how that which does not work, that which falls, fails, breaks down, or dies, as a part of a ‘fallen’ Nature is contemplated and is a part within a larger scheme. With Uranus being in the 11th House Scorpio, relative to Neptune in the 12th House, and Pisces intercepted within the 3rd House, this questioning has led to ways of understanding based on duality, or in a fragmentation of forces interacting within Creation. Thus, different dualistic cosmologies have been gravitated to, including cosmologies in which Creation is considered not to be created by God, but by some fallen god or demiurge, such as the cosmologies of Mani or Basilides, involving a polarization between Spirit and matter, and ‘flesh’, and, light and dark, this then coming into the current lifetime and recent prior lifetimes as desires to again intuit the inherent Unity within Nature and Creation, ie., how duality is contained within Unity, and how life is stronger than death. The duality has also been a source of intense inner polarization of forces within those cosmologies his Soul has gravitated to in the past, and from which the Soul has needed to individuate. This individuation would progressively lead into a form of Pantheism, in which, through the intuition of Spirit within matter, matter is recovered in some ways.
A dual orientation and response have existed to the collective unconscious/consciousness, because on one side there is a permeating orientation to unite with these contents-Pluto in the 3rd House ruled by Neptune in the 12th House- and also a need to detach and individuate from these same contents –Uranus 11th House, Aquarius on the 3rd House cusp-in order to understand objectively what the underlying Natural laws are, in contrast with beliefs and invented cosmologies. Both dual orientations are based at their core on desires to know the origin of everything, either directly, or through explanations and systems that give account of the known, or speculate about the unknown. Within the conflict between desires to unite with and osmose belief systems and bodies of knowledge, and the desires to detach and liberate from these systems in order to have direct experience, the intention –however conditioned by other desires in the birthchart as we have seen- would be based on desires to find shortcuts, to get to know quicker, by recurring to the pre-existing knowledge forms, knowledge put together by others within the collective, with the risk however of confusion or over-identification with knowledge which is not actual knowledge.
The Saturn Balsamic conjunction to Neptune reflects a whole cycle of development which is coming to a close, between the conditioned and formed and the unconditioned and formless, in which the formed and conditioned is being absorbed and dissolved by the unconditioned and formless. At one level, Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House correlates with pre-existing ideas and belief structures. Their dissolution reflects the potential access to the phenomena themselves, which, in turn, has allowed a new distribution of contents. Thus, concepts serving a cosmic purpose, and manifesting universal laws of Nature. Same time, concepts or ideas which were deemed as immutable or eternal by the Soul, which are giving place to a more vivid experience of phenomenal reality. Personally I don’t know if a plane of pure and unchanging ideas exist-such the sky of ideas of Plato, or an Unmanifest reality beyond phenomenal Creation which would be unchanging as Spiritual traditions speak about. Who knows? I rather think that these ideas perhaps in a big part actually result from the patriarchal devaluation of Nature, and the repression of the own nature which has induced emotional insecurity and an ‘elevation’ of contents to a ‘transcendent’ plane, where they cannot be affected by the ever changing nature of phenomenal existence. In Darwin’s chart, Saturn ruling the 2nd House and all the Capricorn south nodes and the Moon, being in the 12th House conjunct Neptune, and being ruled by Jupiter in Pisces, are symbols of contents the Soul has desired to elevate to a transcendent status in prior lifetimes, and which are culminating a process which is taking these contents back to where they belong: they are being embodied and grounded within the nature of phenomena, and Nature, ie. Kali, the Mother, which encompasses perpetual change, versus Brahma, the changeless and untouchable Creator. Dissolution of thought structures is revealing that which the Soul desired to place in a pure ultimate realm of immutable nature, as it naturally exists within the immanence of Creation. In turn, dissolution of concepts the Soul wanted to be untouchable by change is allowing integration of emotional contents within the personal boundaries of personality, sensation, and feeling. I would say that a fundamental reason for Darwin’s Soul desires to know the truth of Nature is rooted in this necessary orientation that is leading him back to the Mother.
If we could know all the phenomena, then we could be able to ask about and intuit all the natural laws which are manifested in and are the cause or explanation of the phenomena. As Darwin wrote in Origin: “If we possessed a perfect pedigree of mankind, a genealogical arrangement of the races of man would afford the best classification of the various languages now spoken throughout the world; and if all extinct languages, and all intermediate and slowly changing dialects, were to be included, such an arrangement would be the only possible one.” Same time, if we had an understanding of all the natural laws which operate within Nature, or some field within Nature, such knowledge would allow us to deduce exactly what the resulting phenomena would be. We don´t possess an understanding or knowledge of either type, and hence, our knowledge and understanding are limited and relative. And though, we still need to ‘know’ and in fact the human species has developed vast amounts of knowledge about the material world. Knowledge is a fact, but how is it that knowledge develops despite the limitations encountered by the inductive and generalizing and the deductive Soul faculties, demonstrated by the universal experience of error? While Darwin’s Soul has been more focused on the existing desires to know and understand Nature, rather than wanting to philosophically understand what are the conditions or possibilities for such knowledge, we know because of Pluto and the stellium of Planets in the 3rd House in Pisces and Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House, etc., that his Soul has inwardly attempted various orientations to knowledge, and has had intense inner confrontations around the difficulty to make sense of the phenomenal world of Nature: how to make sense of the immense variety of species, and their variations, how to conduct this variety into a unity that allow to perceive Nature as a whole which contains and explains how the variation of the species has come to be.
The problem of what is possible to know or not within Nature, from a rational point of view, is conditioned by the parameters that define whether Nature, or animals, etc., are intelligent beings, or on the contrary, beings which operate only as conditioned by materialistic blind causal forces. If Nature, and species, were deemed to be non-intelligent, then the idea of a purposefulness in the arrangement of Nature, that would lead the species to evolve, would have to be denied necessarily; or alternatively, such purposefulness or intelligent arrangement would need to be attributed to an external creator or agent. Again, these alternatives have been created as a result of the incepted conflict between Spirit and flesh, the repression of the natural instincts of the human species, and the underlying overall devaluation of the feminine nature.
Darwin’s scientific intentions were place in a historical context in which, on one side, Creationism based on religious doctrine needed to be abandoned. Newton had demonstrated that planets were in their orbits because of immanent forces of Nature, and not a direct action by God. This in turn fed desires to eliminate the idea of purposefulness from scientific understanding in general, and explain Nature from purely materialistic points of view.
Neptune/Saturn in Sagittarius in the 12th House ruling the 3rd House Pisces correlate with the dynamic of judgment. It is through the dynamic of judgment that consciousness creates new knowledge, by relating the known to whatever manifestation in reality the nature of which becomes more defined or known through the process of judgment. This is true for deductive judgment where the particular is judged to be comprised within a concept or larger category, and for inductive judgment which attempts to grasp the general concept or category which contain the particular manifestations. However, it is not enough with deduction/induction except when dealing with concepts which are already defined or when all the particulars are known. When such conditions don’t exist, imagination is required. In order for imagination to become actively involved, a sort of natural ‘faith’ is necessary, a faith in an underlying order or explanation beyond the concepts already available. Here lies another reason for Darwin’s Soul to engage in an understanding of Nature: within biological forms, it is self-evident that parts are contained within an organic whole, and make sense as a part of the complete organism. Thus, Neptune in Sagittarius reflects the ongoing need to focus on the whole first, in order to allow parts to make sense in their relation with the whole. In Darwin’s case, he needed to focus on the whole of Nature, and species in general, rather that only some specifics. Focusing on the whole first, he then needed to allow a ‘free floating’ of accumulated information/facts, and perceived patterns within this enormous volume of data, in order first, for the necessary dissolution of what still needed to be dissolved and individuated from, and then, for the intuition/imagination of the underlying natural laws to emerge, which would serve to explain how species evolve. This further required to embrace a sense of natural faith, or an intuition of an underlying larger order in how such variety generates. This is interesting to me because this type of intuition or natural faith allows to think ‘as if’ such order exists, while it is not yet perceived, and then would allow to actually discover such underlying patterns or laws. This would be an inherent capacity of human cognition, which, progressively, would allow to make sense of any aspect of material reality from an individual and collective point of view. Further, Neptune in Sagittarius with its north node ruler the Sun in the 2nd House in Aquarius, reflects an ongoing mind simplification resulting from the progressive intuition of the larger arrangement of biological phenomena, allowing the mind to rest, and being itself a vehicle for such intuition to emerge within consciousness. It seems fascinating to me that, coming from the incepted conflict between spirit and matter, and the higher and lower, Darwin came in fact to a point of resolution by means of demonstrating that purposefulness or intelligent arrangement within Nature in fact occurs through the instinctual nature of the biological species: their instinct of survival and the sexual instinct. The Sun in Aquarius in the 2nd House, a natural Venus House, reflects a type of aesthetical contemplation that was required for this to occur, which is exactly what Kant proposed to be necessary in order to make sense of the phenomena when the logical basis for judgment are not complete or exhaustive, because contemplation of Nature, or art, demands to go beyond any parameters that would condition what is considered to be real beforehand. Introducing purposefulness at the level of instinct as the vehicle through which the whole of Nature creates its amazing variety, including the human species and its higher faculties within in a continuum of evolution, is in fact a reconciliation of opposites that existed as such along many lifetimes in Darwin’s Soul.
Also, my feeling is that Neptune/Saturn in the 12th House in Sagittarius conjunct the Ascendant, and the Pisces stellium in the 3rd House, reflect the Soul’s desires to heal its orientation to knowledge and cognition, and specifically its intuitive and imaginative capacities. Also, to heal the nature of instinct, and the sexual instinct and nature, which in turn is serving to metamorphose the Soul’s relatedness with itself. Interesting that asteroid Panacea is conjunct Neptune, and this could reflect that a large part of the healing his Soul desires and needs could come through healing these dynamics and archetypes.
